SUN Community Schools
Mt. Tabor Middle School
Photography becomes most powerful when young people are given space to see, question, and create.
Through our partnership with SUN Community Schools and Mt. Tabor Middle School, the Oregon Photographic Society offers after-school photography programs designed to support creativity, confidence, and self-expression among middle school students.
These programs introduce youth to photography as both an artistic practice and a way of understanding the world around them. Students learn foundational skills such as composition, light, and visual storytelling, while also developing critical thinking, collaboration, and confidence in their own voices.
Our classes are intentionally accessible and inclusive. Cameras are provided when needed, instruction is hands-on, and learning happens through exploration rather than perfection. Students are encouraged to experiment, reflect, and share their work in a supportive environment where curiosity leads the way.
At the heart of our youth programs is the belief that creative education is not a luxury. It is a vital tool for connection, self-discovery, and belonging. By working within schools and community spaces, OPS helps ensure that young people have access to meaningful artistic experiences regardless of background or resources.
Through exhibitions, portfolios, and community showcases, students see their work valued and celebrated. In the process, they begin to see themselves as artists, storytellers, and active participants in their creative communities.
